Chair of computer intellectual systems and networks is one of the leading Computer Systems Institute. The history of the department dates back to 1954, when the Department of automation of production processes (APT) was organized at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
The founder and first head of the department was Associate Professor M.P. Pohilo.
The department at that time worked A.N. Korytin (later Vice-Rector PGI), A.A. Bahtiozin (later dean FATA), F.S. Chapeau (later dean FATA). The traditional scientific direction of the department was and is the development of intelligent tools for measuring strain gauges. The founder of this scientific direction was Associate Professor M.P.Pohilo. For many years (1962 - 1990) scientific management of works on creation of digital instrumentation for strain measurement carried Associate Professor V.V.Skalovy. At present scientific developments in the field of modern information systems for measuring strain measurement is led by Professor Kopytchuk MB In particular, developed at the Department of digital meters F4231, F4232, F4233 for a long time mass produced Cheboksary electrical measuring instruments. Individual solutions related to the automation of processes of weighing and dosing of different materials were introduced at Taganrog, Dnieper, Krivoy Rog, Cherepovets and many other steel mills and factories. Electronic equipment for weighing in movement of trains was established in Odessa, Cherkassy, Darnitsa (Kyiv) and a number of other purposes, Pikalevo alumina refinery, Poltava ore processing plant and many other enterprises. The second research area, actively developed at the department in the seventies and eighties, involves the creation of highly specialized high-speed computer systems for processing radar signals, tools and media-aided design for these systems. Founder and scientific director of this scientific field is an assistant professor E.L. Polin.
The third research direction began to develop at the department since the eighties in connection with the development of specialized computer systems, it is to provide a means of monitoring and diagnosing the functional computing devices.
